Don Roberts Speaks at York Technical College

DELTA [v] Engineer Presents on Passenger Vehicle CDR Technology

York, SC  – July 2010 – Don Roberts, Professional Engineer at DELTA [v] Forensic Engineering, Inc., spoke at York Technical College on passenger vehicle Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) technology.  Mr. Robert’s presentation included classroom instruction, as well as an actual CDR download.

The group explored CDR equipment, data extractions, and triggering events.  Later, the class put that knowledge to practical use by performing a data extraction on a 2005 Chevy Silverado.  The vehicle had been involved in a T-bone collision.  Mr. Robert’s initial hand calculations had the Silverado’s speed at 50-55 mph.  The CDR download validated Don’s estimate with a vehicle speed of 52 mph.

In recent years, Don and his DELTA [v] colleagues have seen an increase in CDR downloads because of the amount of vehicles that are now equipped with this technology.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NTSHA) estimates that 85% of all passenger vehicles manufactured this year will contain CDR technology.
